Dentures Q & A

How long do you have to wait to get dentures after teeth are removed?

Typically we insert a denture the day your teeth are removed so you don't have to undergo any embarrassment. After 6 to 8 weeks your denture can be re-adapted (relined) to your healed gum tissue. If you choose a denture retained by implants, the implants can usually be placed at the same surgical visit.

What are the best dentures to get?

Although digital dentures have been introduced to the market and heavily advertised, there is no question that dentures made by hand are the educated choice. There are just some things that a machine cannot do well such as a careful evaluation your facial features or adapting the denture to movable tissues. The cosmetic appearance of digital dentures is typically not on a par with hand made dentures as the raw materials used to mill or print are monotone in nature.

What are the different types of dentures?

traditional/conventional complete full dentures-dentures supported only by suction and tissue support
partial dentures-dentures supported by several remaining natural teeth
immediate denture-dentures inserted at the same surgical visit that the remaining teeth are removed
implant supported dentures-patient removable dentures retained or supported by 2 or more dental implants

Which is better dentures or dental implants?

Without question, dentures that are supported by dental implants will be better than conventional dentures. Eating with conventional dentures requires careful balance between the cheek muscles and tongue and chewing efficiency is less than 20% than if you had all of your natural teeth. Eating with implant supported dentures greatly improve eating and speaking because there is little to no movement of the dentures.
